Inspiration

Nadia & Lili Boulanger

Ensemble Boulanger takes its name from a pair of brilliant composers, sisters Nadia Boulanger (1887-1979) and Lili Boulanger (1893-1914). Nadia Boulanger was a conductor, composer, and the most influential composition teacher of the 20th century. Lili Boulanger was the first woman to win France’s premier composition prize, the Prix de Rome. She created a body of innovative, astonishing compositions before her tragic early death.

Ensemble Boulanger celebrates the legacy of the Boulanger sisters, and of women composers throughout history.
